-Every increase in concentration carries new risks, but avoiding that danger zone would reduce the likelihood of triggering major, irreversible climate changes like disappearance of the Greenland ice cap.
-Two years ago the two of us provided a simple framework to relate future CO2 emissions to this goal
-One future is if emissions rate continues to grow at pace of the past 30 years for next 50, reaching 14 billion tons of carbon a year in 2056. At that point, a tripling of pre-industrial carbon would be difficult to avoid.
-For global emissions to be the same in 2056 as today, the carbon intensity will need to fall not half as fast but fully as fast as the global economy grows
-To make the task of reducing emissions vivid, we sliced the stabilization triangle into seven equal pieces, or "wedges", each representing one billion tons a year of averted emissions 50 years from now.
-Ending the era of conventional coal fired power plants is at the very top of the decarbonization agenda. Coal has become more competitive as a source of power and fuel because of energy security concerns and because of an increase in the cost of oil and gas
-Options could include scrubbing CO2 directly from air, carbon storage minerals, nuclear fusion, nuclear thermal hydrogen and artificial photosynthesis. One more of the technologies may arrive in time to help the first runner, although the world shouldn't count on it
Summary:
This article talks about different ways to cut carbon emissions. Carbon emissions enter our atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels and the stuff we use for inefficient energy systems we use everyday. One way you can cut carbon emissions is to cut building's electricity that you can use in half and equip them with superefficient lighting and appliances. You can even help cut Carbon emissions within your own home. Solar panels may help as well. Cutting emissions will help with energy production and energy efficiency. We have to take action to reduce carbon emissions so we can learn how to save money and learn how to save our planet.
Reflection:
I think this article is very interesting because we are finding all these new technology. Instead of taking care of our environment and we made it worst. I think we need to focus on saving our environment because we are destroying it and we know that but we aren't doing anything major to help it. The next generations will live in the bad environment we damaged and caused. I think is very scary that people care about more materialistic things instead of the environment itself. I wonder where we are going to end up in 50 years and how bad the environment will become.
