Notes: -Before 2,000 young people outnumbered old people -From 2007 forward, urban people will outnumber rural people. -From 2003 on, the median woman worldwide had, and will continue to have, too few or just enough children during her lifetime to replace herself and the father in the following generation. -The next half a century will see an enormous shift in the demographic balance between more developed and less developed regions. By 2050 the ration between less developed populations vs. more is 6 to 1. -Estimated by 2050 the population will be 9.1 billion -Lowing population growth everywhere means that the 20th century was probably the last in human history in which younger people outnumbered older ones. -Children aged 4 years and younger peaked in 1955 at 14.5% and declined to 9.5% in 2005. Older increased from 8.1 percent to 10.4 percent from 1960 to 2005. -Major cities were est. in regions of exceptional agricultural productivity. If the urban population doubles in the next half a century from 3 billion to 6 billion, while the world's rural population remains roughly constant at three billion, and if many cities expand in area rather than in density, agricultural lands could be removed.
Summary: This article talks about human population peaks throughout history. The increase in the population is known for growth in a third world country. Countries that are not wealthy in general. Populations in the poorer countries are estimated to have a higher population than of countries like the United States. Therefore we are having an rapid growth that we will have at least 9.1 billion people on this earth by 2050. Population is also estimated to increase by 74 to 76 million per year. This can reach our carrying capacity making us run out of resources to survive. Reflection: It's scary how our world population is increasing so much. It worries me as well because most of the population is in areas like Africa and Afghanistan. A lot of children are left in the orphanage due to their parents passing away from deadly diseases. Many children are being raised without parents. I feel like we need to have laws to restrict the number of children in some of these countries and the United states while Japan and China should be encouraged to have more children.
