Summary: Flame retardants may be lowering children's IQs. Flame retardants are still used today. Children were probably expose to this chemical since they were born because it is found on furniture and carpets in our homes! Scientist have done research about 309 pregnant women early on their second trimester that was expose to flame retardants and found out really high levels of polybrominated biphenyl ethers also known as PBDE. Leading into behavior issues and it should deficits when they got older and hyperactivity. Flame retardants makes hazardous dust that falls on the floors and children usually put their hands in their mouths being a major issue.
Reflection: I really agree that they should get rid of the flame retardants because it isn't good for your children in the long run. I remember watching a documentary in Ms.Ogo class when these companies that make them paid little kids to say that they needed the flame retardants so they wouldn't burn in a fire.. That's pretty sad how desperate they don't want to ruin their business instead of helping these children's health. As for the IQ part I do think it affects their IQ too.
