Title: Poop power: Ghana turning human waste into energy Author: Jessica CampbellMercydalyne Lokko Source: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2013/09/15/poop_power_ghana_turning_human_waste_into_energy.html Date: September 15, 2013 Summary: In Lavender Hill, for the past 20 years, human waste from Ghana's capital city, have been dumping their waste in the ocean everyday. This causes a sanitation problem but new technology are allowing us to convert human waste into fertilizer, biofuel, and biodiesel. This is good because it is more efficient and cheaper. Sunesson has created a business creating fertilizer and biofuel from human waste. The company, in two months the amount of waste being dumped into the ocean was cut in half. Prof. Kartik Chandran of New York's Columbia University creates biodiesel and other chemicals from poop. Reflection: Like the other articles, this title caught my attention. POOP POWER! I find it very interesting because in this world we have millions and millions of people which causes a humorous amount of poop and what do we do with it and where does it store up? That's why we need a more efficient way to get rid of some of it which is converting it into fertilizers, biofuel, and biodiesel.
