Farmers in Nepal Use Urine to Boost Crop Yields
By Smriti Mallapaty and Environmental Health News
Summary:
A farmer in Nepal has been using urine to grow his plants. It is considered safe unless the urine touches the plants. The urine is expose to stay in the soil. He's plants turns out bigger and healthier than the other farmer's plants. Increasing his salary by a lot, he saves it for his children's education and invested half the amount in shares for a micro-hydro plant that would bring electricity to his locale. Other farmer's are following his lead. Soil is too expensive in Nepal therefore urine is an alternative for them.
Opinion:
I think it's cool that it is helping the family financially. But, I could never imagine myself buying stuff from them because I am a germaphobic and the idea of having human waste around my food is just disgusting. Maybe, I'll try it once but I wouldn't eat more afterwards. It also saves the family money because urine is free. Other then that good job for the families who is doing this but be aware of some health concerns.
