Title: Wetlands
Author: Jon A. Kusler, William J. Mitsch, and Joseph S. Larson
Notes:
-All share the recognition that wetlands are shallow-water systems, or areas where water is at or near the surface for some time.
-In the U.S., more than half of these regions have been destroyed in every state except for Alaska and Hawaii.
- wetlands are highly dependent on the quantity and quality of water in their immediate area.
- Wetlands had been destroyed as people built on them
-Hurricanes and high-velocity floods scour sediments and organic matter, removing them from wetlands or creating wetlands nearby.
-The dependence of many wetlands on contiguous water systems makes them especially vulnerable to even minor human activity.
Summary:
Wetlands is homes of many species. These are form by hurricanes and droughts and much more. Wetlands are slowly vanishing. Why? because of people building constructions on wetlands. A lot of wetlands are almost all wiped out. California is wetlands are almost nonexistent. Scientist and landowners are very worried and concerned about how fast the disappearance because of the species that need it for survival.
Reflection:
I didn't really know much about wetlands until I read this article. It showed me how important it is to the environment but they aren't many much left in this world. Scientist are trying to fix this problem but the government and them are not agreeing with each other. Imagine how many species would have to find a other place to live but also extinct animals are living in wetlands as well but the lack of it would cause them to be extinct for sure if the government and scientist do not agree with each other.
