Ebola Exacerbates West Africa’s Poverty Crisis
By David Biello
Summary:
Ebola strikes a family home by her mother helping at a clinic which spreads to her father, sister, and herself. Dorcas was the only one that survived. Many people have lost their entire family due to this disease. Surviving Ebola is one of the first challenge in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone but these countries have a lack of functioning health care systems. Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone have estimated 28 million people a few hundred doctors. Controlling other tropical diseases like Lassa fever and malaria isn't going great because of Ebola's arrival. The symptoms of Ebola and the other diseases are similar so it's very hard for the doctors to diagnose because rapid tests for Ebola does not exist yet. The countries were Ebola crisis hit the hardest is the poorest/ third world countries.
Reflection:
As on 2015, Ebola has went down increasingly. I remember watching a vice video on Ebola and they were talking about how their families were sick but the hospitals in their town was full already so they had to keep trying to find an available hospital to get treatment. They also had another vice video on bush meat and how people can get Ebola from it. This article is very sad, and I help some day the third world countries will have a better education, health care, and better health equipment.
